B.S. Rana

Bedendra Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana, widely known as B.S. Rana, was a legendary veteran actor in the Nepali film industry renowned for his commanding screen presence, distinct voice, and versatile acting style. Born into the prominent Rana family of Kathmandu, he received an elite education at St. Joseph's School in Darjeeling and later spent nearly thirty years in the United Kingdom, where he immersed himself in English literature and performed in Shakespearean theater. Upon returning to Nepal, he balanced his artistic passion by teaching English literature at local colleges before making his formal Nepali cinema debut in the 1984 film Anyaya. Over a career spanning several decades, he acted in over fifty feature films, including iconic titles like Chino, Koseli, Basanti, and Seto Bagh. Despite his aristocratic lineage and successful acting career, Rana faced severe financial hardships and health complications in his later years, eventually passing away from heart complications at the age of 79 on February 1, 2019, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of Kollywood's most disciplined and elegant character actors.
