He first gained widespread recognition and reached peak popularity with the critically acclaimed film Pashupati Prasad (2016), where his performance as the clever yet conflicted gold trader showcased his talent for nuanced character acting.

Beyond his work in front of the camera, Baniya is a key figure at Shatkon Arts, the production house responsible for some of Nepal's most successful and artistically ambitious films, including Jatra (2016) and its sequels, Jatrai Jatra, and Mahajatra (2024). In these films, he starred as Joyas, a character that became a fan favorite for his comedic timing and relatability.
