Margaret Jackman

Margaret Jackman (born 30 November 1937, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne & Wear, England) is an English actress, 5′ 5″ (165 cm) tall, whose career spans nearly seven decades. She began acting at nineteen in weekly rep at the Pier Pavilion in South Shields, then attended Leicester University, where she met and married George Manuell; the couple moved to Tanzania where she taught English for five years. After returning to the UK and teaching at Rawlett School in Tamworth, Staffordshire, she resumed acting in 1988. She earned an MA in Theatre and Performing Arts from Rose Bruford College (2002) and an MA in Community and Participatory Arts from Staffordshire University (2012), and is a member of the Allanian Mentoring Programme. Her most notable film credits include Miriam in Risen (2016), Doris in The Brothers Grimsby (2016, with Sacha Baron Cohen), Mrs. Brady in Control (2007, with Sam Riley), Mavis in Convenience (2015), and Nana Maddie in Get Gone (2021). On television she is best known as The Waif's Disguise in Game of Thrones (2016, Season 6), with recurring credits in Casualty (1995–2019), Heartbeat (2001–2007), Shameless (2007–2009), and Coronation Street (1960), and appearances in All Creatures Great and Small (1978), The Bill (1984), Emmerdale (1972), Pennyworth (2019), Happy Valley (2014), Britannia (2019), Call the Midwife (2012), Vera (2011), Scott & Bailey (2013), The Village (2013), See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006), Inspector George Gently (2009), The Royal (2008), Brassic, and The Cleaner (2021, 2024).
