The Leopard in the Land (2015)

In the shadow of the Mountains, Art & Survival Collide

In the remote and unforgiving wilderness of the Altai Mountains in western Mongolia, artist Joe Rohde sets out on a month-long horseback expedition in search of meaning, inspiration and a deeper connection to the natural world. His goal is simple: to create large-scale paintings that will help protect one of the planet's most elusive and endangered animals: the snow leopard. Battling blizzards, rugged terrain and the challenges of travel across vast open landscapes, the journey becomes more than an artistic mission. It transforms into a personal and philosophical exploration of why we venture into the wild-and what those journeys reveal about our relationship with the world around us. As the Mongolian winter closes in, The Leopard in the Land unfolds as a stunning and deeply reflective story of endurance, creativity and purpose. Through sweeping landscapes and moments of introspection, the film captures the fragile beauty of a disappearing world-and the urgent need to protect it.
